A Master Formula for Chiral Symmetry Breaking
We derive a master formula for chiral SU(2)×SU(2) breaking, based on the VeltmanBell equations and the Peierls-Dyson relation. Our approach does not rely on the use of the soft pion limit or an expansion around the chiral limit, and yields exact results for on-shell pions. Threshold theorems for πN → πN , γN → πN , πN → ππN , γN → γπN , γN → ππN and πN → πγN are recovered, and corrections to th...
متن کاملUniform trace formulae for SU ( 2 ) and SO ( 3 ) symmetry breaking
We develop uniform approximations for the trace formula for non-integrable systems in which SU(2) symmetry is broken by a non-linear term of the Hamiltonian. As specific examples, we investigate Hénon-Heiles type potentials. Our formalism can also be applied to the breaking of SO(3) symmetry in a three-dimensional cavity with axially-symmetric quadrupole deformation. PACS number: 03.65.Sq
متن کاملSO3 symmetry breaking mechanism for orientation and spatial frequency tuning in the visual cortex.
A dynamical model of orientation and spatial frequency tuning in a cortical hypercolumn is presented. The network topology is taken to be a sphere whose poles correspond to orientation pinwheels associated with high and low spatial frequency domains, respectively. Recurrent interactions within the sphere generate a tuned response via an SO3 symmetry breaking mechanism.
متن کاملAnomalous dispersion relations by symmetry breaking in axially uniform waveguides.
We show that modes of axially uniform waveguides of arbitrary cross section can be made to have anomalous dispersion relations resulting from strong repulsion between two modes. When the axial wave vector k is 0, the two modes have different TE/TM symmetry and thus can be brought arbitrarily close to an accidental frequency degeneracy. For nonzero k, the symmetry is broken causing the modes to ...
متن کاملSemiclassical Time Evolution and Trace Formula for Relativistic Spin-1/2 Particles
We investigate the Dirac equation in the semiclassical limit ~ → 0. A semiclassical propagator and a trace formula are derived and are shown to be determined by the classical orbits of a relativistic point particle. In addition, two phase factors enter, one of which can be calculated from the Thomas precession of a classical spin transported along the particle orbits. For the second factor we p...
